GCash has joined forces with the renowned Web3 game Axie Infinity, marking a significant step forward for the on-chain gaming community. This partnership aims to streamline the process for Filipino gamers, allowing them to quickly transfer cryptocurrency between the Axie ecosystem and GCash’s crypto platform, GCrypto.
GCash and Axie Infinity Collaboration
This collaboration is set to provide a straightforward pathway for users to convert their in-game currencies to fiat currency, specifically Philippine pesos, directly within the GCash app. Additionally, GCrypto will act as a conversion hub for other games under the Sky Mavis’ Ronin ecosystem, including Pixels.
The partnership is committed to adhering to industry standards and implementing enhanced safety and security measures to improve the user experience.
Luis Buenaventura, Head of Crypto at GCash, shared, “This collaboration is another step ahead in our mission to transform the potential of blockchain technology and to democratize it even more, going beyond the purchase, sale, and maintenance of cryptocurrencies in the GCash app.”
He further emphasized the goal of GCrypto, which is to reduce financial and technical barriers to crypto gaming, strongly emphasizing user safety.
Jeff Zirlin, Co-Founder of Sky Mavis, highlighted the significance of the Philippines in the web3 gaming sector, stating, “The Philippines is the beating heart of Web3 gaming. GCash has over 80 million installs in PH and we’re ecstatic to bring economic freedom to this massive community. This partnership will make onboarding everyday people to our movement even easier.”
The Impact on the Philippines
The Filipino gaming community makes up to 50% of Axie Infinity’s user base. The popularity of Pixels in the Philippines has also surged, making it the game’s largest market with over 170,000 daily active users.
The reintroduction of the utility token Smooth Love Potion (SLP) to Axie Infinity v2 was hinted at, recalling the token’s contribution to the game’s popularity in the country in 2021.
During the Yield Guild Games (YGG) Web3 Games Summit (W3GS), Zirlin expressed his gratitude to the Filipino community, coinciding with the official relaunch of Axie Infinity Classic.
Furthermore, Sky Mavis expanded its presence by launching a merchandise store in collaboration with Grab, offering figurines, plushies, and apparel. This initiative rewards users with Grab points for engaging with the Axie Infinity Merch Store via the Grab app, further integrating the gaming experience with everyday digital transactions.
