New iThink Hackathon Features ₱225K Prize Pool for Web3 Social Impact

ISLA Camp has launched the fourth iThink Hackathon, offering ₱225,000 prizes for web3 developers who design solutions for societal challenges. This initiative aims to leverage blockchain technology to address real-world issues and provides developers with a unique opportunity to make a positive difference in the world.

As the fourth installment organized by ISLA Camp, this event reflects their ongoing commitment to supporting the local blockchain sector and nurturing local talent.

The hackathon is a testament to the growing trend of using blockchain to tackle global challenges, and it encourages innovation and collaboration among developers to create solutions for peace, health, education, and environmental sustainability. Organizers invite web3 developers in the Philippines to develop projects utilizing the Internet Computer Protocol (ICP).

  • Total prize pool: ₱225,000
  • Champion prize: ₱50,000 per track
  • Runner-up prizes: ₱30,000 and ₱20,000 per track
  • Special prizes: ₱12,500 each for the most innovative DApp and game concept

How to Participate:

  • Participants can join individually or in teams of up to five members and must be familiar with ICP.
  • To ensure originality, teams should have yet to receive ICP grants or hackathon prizes for the projects they submit.
  • Projects will be developed in two categories: web and game applications, using ICP for backend APIs.

More details can be found at https://hackathon.islacamp.ph/.

The hackathon includes design thinking sessions, mentorship, and workshops, culminating in a July 31, 2024 showcase. Selected teams will receive mentorship and training, leading to the final showcase, where projects will be judged and winners announced. The last iThink Hackathon awarded the grand prize to “Waste2Earn,” an innovative recycling rewards platform. At the same time, students from Bulacan State University previously won “Community,” a platform connecting job seekers with micro-opportunities.
