Arbitrum blockchain integration in Ubisoft’s Captain Laserhawk Web3 game.

Ubisoft Breaks New Ground! Players to Shape the Future in Captain Laserhawk Web3 Game

Ubisoft, the well-known company behind hits like Assassin’s Creed and Just Dance, is taking a bold step forward by teaming up with the Arbitrum Foundation and the Web3 game development platform Sequence. Together, they’re creating a brand-new game called Captain Laserhawk: the G.A.M.E., set in the Captain Laserhawk universe. What makes this game special is that players will have a real say in how the story unfolds, thanks to Arbitrum’s blockchain technology.

Nicolas Pouard, Vice President of Ubisoft Labs, shared that this game is designed to be something groundbreaking—where players don’t just play, but actually help shape the story, gameplay, and even the extra content. This is more than just a game; it’s a shared creation that could change how we think about gaming.

Captain Laserhawk: the G.A.M.E. will bring together characters from some of Ubisoft’s most beloved franchises like Assassin’s Creed, Rayman, and Beyond Good and Evil. It will expand on the world created in the 2023 Netflix film Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, which was inspired by the 2013 Ubisoft game Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon.

While many other gaming companies are stepping back from Web3 projects, Ubisoft is pushing forward. They’ve been pioneers in merging traditional gaming with the Web3 space. In 2021, Ubisoft announced they would add non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, facing some resistance from the gaming community. But they didn’t stop there. They introduced ‘smart collectibles’ for Assassin’s Creed, brought Rabbids avatars into The Sandbox metaverse, and partnered with Immutable and Animoca Brands to strengthen the link between traditional gaming and Web3.

Despite the initial backlash, Ubisoft’s commitment to Web3 has remained strong. Recently, they launched an NFT collection for their upcoming Web3 game, Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles, which sold out in minutes, defying the current market trends.

Now, with the announcement of Captain Laserhawk: the G.A.M.E., Ubisoft is doubling down on its Web3 strategy. While the success of this venture remains to be seen, it’s clear that Ubisoft is not afraid to push boundaries and keep the gaming world on its toes.
